Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Lead Designer - Layout/Mechanical to join our growing design team in Toronto,Ontario. 

Reporting to the Principal Designer the Lead Designer - Layout/Mechanical will:             

  • Produce mechanical designs that are in accordance with Project, Client and regulatory standards.
  • Management of and responsibility for mechanical design and drafting resources assigned to allocated tasks to achieve agreed deliverable dates and budgets.
  • Consistently incorporate safety in design and technical integrity within the engineering design process.
  • Work collaboratively with personnel across all business units.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Appraise the layout and detailing of materials handling and mine plant design. 
  • Produce design drawings that are consistent industry standard techniques and that comply to Company drawing office and CAD procedures.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of fabrication and construction techniques in the materials handling industry.
  •  Ensure project schedules and man-hour budgets are met for areas of assigned work.
  • Produce Company and industry standard models and design drawings from the design engineer calculations and sketches.
  • Follow and implement all relevant Company standards and procedures and ensure design drawings comply with all relevant Australian and International Standards.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement of design and safety.
  • Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance to the Company approved procedures.
  • Review and interpret vendor drawings and design data.
  • Ensure project design data of work is disseminated to other project team members in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Proactively support other team members as required to ensure Project deliverables are met.
  • Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design work criteria and deliverables.
  • Compile project reporting requirements in accordance with Company and Client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Manage all members of the Mechanical Design team in compliance with applicable project / study specific requirements and current industry work codes and standards.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Advise the Project Manager and the Commercial Manager immediately on matters that negatively affect project goals.
  • Suggest methods to improve operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to professional development of junior designers by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
  • Ensure a high level of communication is attained within the design team.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to the design team as required.
  • Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.
