Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Design Manager to join our growing Engineering team in Mississauga, ON.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering the Design Manager is accountable to manage and direct the multi-discipline engineering / drafting teams to produce outputs that are fit for purpose, in alignment with project requirements and produced in a timely and cost effective manner.

The tasks you'll perform

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving design issues
  • Design approval of drawings, standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Monitor the progress and performance of the project design team and give input and provide feedback and support where necessary.
  • Preparation of man-hour budgets and design schedules for Study /EPCM estimates.
  • Facilitate design reviews through the development stages of the project design.
  • Assist with pre-commissioning activities and manage field engineering.
  • Manage subordinates’ review of vendor certified documentation (drawings, data sheets, manuals, lube lists, etc.) and the dissemination of vendor information to discipline engineers / drafting resources for interface checking.
  • Management of and responsibility for multi-discipline design and drafting resources assigned to allocated tasks to achieve agreed deliverable dates and man-hour budgets.
  • Follow and implement all relevant Company standards and procedures and ensure design drawings comply with all relevant Australian and International Standards.
  • Compile project reporting requirements in accordance with Company and Client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Monitor the progress and performance of the project design team and give input and provide feedback and support where necessary.
  • Contribute to engineers in trainings professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
  • Provide technical support and input to proposals, customer presentations, and other marketing, business development activities. Prepare design scope, budget and schedule for written proposals.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure a high level of communication is attained with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to the design team as required.
  • Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.

The expertise you'll bring

  • Qualification in Engineering, or the equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years post graduate experience in Mineral Processing or Metallurgical plant design.
  • Intuitive leader with the ability to initiate, lead and manage change in a complex environment.
  • Provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning to personnel within your team.
  • Capacity to evaluate work practices, implement systems and suggest alternatives and refinements where necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of engineering drawings.
  • Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient understanding of business acumen with the ability to adapt to different business environments.
