General Medical/Surgical Inpatient, Urgent Care Centre

Kyabram District Health Service is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Medical Officer to join our team.

As a Senior Medical Officer at Kyabram District Health Service, you will play a key role in providing high-quality medical care to our community members. This position offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.

  • Full time - 3 shifts per week (12 hours per shift) with 1:2 weekends included in these shifts with 4 hours per fortnight off inpatient/Urgent Care duties, to pursue areas of interest (negotiable).
  • Generous Remuneration based on experience and role (as per the Victoria Doctors in Training EBA) $163,352 - $181,192 base rate plus 11% superannuation and other professional allowances

Overview

Kyabram District Health Service (KDHS) is a medium-sized rural health service that delivers a range of programs and services including acute, subacute, residential aged care and allied and primary health care services. About the role

The Senior Medical Officer will deliver medical care to our 30-bed Acute inpatient ward, our Urgent Care Centre, averaging close to 5000 presentations per annum and support the acute medical needs of residential aged care.

You will

  • Serve as an admitting medical officer for admissions to the Acute Ward within the capability of Kyabram District Health and in line with health service admissions policies and procedures.
  • Conduct clinical handover with other health care providers, and complete discharge/transfer documentation to patients and/or external health care providers.
  • Attend and provide medical care in rapid response situations across the health service, including Basic/Advanced Life Support, airway/ventilation management, vascular access and other resuscitative treatments.

The Senior Medical Officer attends on site from 0800-2000 each rostered day covering the Urgent Care Centre, acute inpatients and aged care residents (in collaboration with each patient's usual GP).

The Senior Medical Officer is on-call from 2000-0800, each rostered day, covering Categories 1 and 2 Urgent Care Centre patients (Categories 3 to 5 patients are covered by a telemedicine service), and acute inpatients/aged care residents (generally by telephone).

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent)
  • General medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Credentialing as a Senior Medical Officer (including General Practitioner)

Ideally, you may also have Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine or Australian College of Emergency Medicine but this is not compulsory.
