About the Role

Yorta itjumatj Yapaneyepuk means ‘Healthy Together’ in Yorta Yorta language and is the name of this important initiative. The aim of this 3- year project is to close the gap in cancer related health outcomes for First Nations People in rural northern Victoria, through the development and implementation of codesigned optimal care pathways. Two project coordinators will work closely together throughout the term of the initiative.

Kyabram District Health Service (KDHS), in partnership with Goulburn Valley Health (GVH), will lead this initiative to transform cancer care for First Nations people in the Campaspe/Goulburn Valley regions. KDHS is committed to deepening collaboration with at least one local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation—such as Rumbalara, Njernda, or Yorta Yorta Nations—ensuring authentic partnership and shared leadership throughout implementation.

This project aims to address significant health disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, through enhanced cultural safety, prevention and early detection. The project will deliver tailored cancer education for the community and enhance the cultural competency of non-indigenous healthcare staff.

The project will deliver the following objectives:

• A comprehensive literature review of First Nations cancer care

• Develop a program logic and monitoring and evaluation framework to guide the project plan

• Develop and deliver culturally safe cancer educational resources through a community-led codesign process

• Develop and deliver advanced cultural safety training for KDHS staff

 About You

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across client, community and professional groups inclusive of skills to negotiate and arrange access to service and treatment

• Computer skills including the ability to adapt to changing demands and the suite of telehealth and mobile devices and the client data base (currently RCP)

• Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines

• Effective reporting writing skills and ability to write submissions
