KJR is looking for a Performance & Load Test Specialist who will be responsible for planning, designing, executing, and reporting on performance, load, stress, and scalability testing across a complex portfolio of applications in preparation for a major event. The role will ensure that both public‑facing and internal systems can safely handle expected and peak workloads, including extreme concurrency, high transaction volumes, and time‑critical processing windows.
This role requires someone who can operate with incomplete or evolving non‑functional requirements, work closely with business stakeholders, DevOps, and development teams, and define realistic performance test scenarios based on real operational usage.
Start Date: As soon as possible
Duration: 3 months (with possible extension)
Key Responsibilities
Performance Test Planning & Strategy
- Own the development and delivery of the performance testing strategy.
- Review application scope and determine which systems require performance testing, including advising where testing may be unnecessary or can be deprioritised.
- Translate business volumes (e.g. users, transactions per hour, batch sizes) into clear and testable NFRs.
- Define performance test entry/exit criteria, success metrics, and risk thresholds.
Performance Test Design & Execution
- Design and execute performance tests across:
- Public‑facing web applications
- Internal system applications
- Batch and high‑volume processing
- Create realistic workload models, including:
- High concurrency (up to 10,000+ users)
- Peak hourly volumes
- Long‑running batch processes (e.g. millions of records)
- Execute:
- Load testing
- Stress testing
- Endurance/soak testing
- Scalability testing
- Validate system behaviour under peak period conditions.
Tooling & Environment Management
- Select and use appropriate performance testing tools (ideally Jmeter since that’s what we have used before).
- Work with DevOps to:
- Configure test environments
- Implement monitoring and logging
- Validate horizontal scaling and infrastructure limits
- Ensure test environments are representative of production where possible.
Analysis, Reporting & Defect Management
- Analyse performance test results to identify:
- Application bottlenecks
- Infrastructure constraints
- Database and integration issues
- Produce clear, executive‑ready performance reports showing:
- Achieved vs expected performance
- Risks and recommendations
- Go/No‑Go readiness assessments
- Log, track and retest performance defects through to resolution.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Quality Assurance
- Development teams
- DevOps
- Business SMEs
- Challenge assumptions and provide evidence‑based advice on system readiness.
- Support decision‑making for readiness and operational risk.
