Assistant Accountant

We're looking for a skilled and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our head office team, reporting to the Financial Controller and providing crucial support to our Finance team. This is a permanent, full-time position, working fully remotely from anywhere in Australia, with the possible occasional requirement to attend in-person meetings. The remuneration package will be commensurate with experience.
About the Role
In this role, you'll play a vital part in supporting our financial operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing general accounting tasks, banking transactions, and monthly bank reconciliations
- Completing month-end tasks, including reports, journals, reconciliations, and other deliverables
- Investigating and resolving account discrepancies
- Adhering to accounting standards and internal policies and procedures
- Reviewing and assisting with fortnightly payroll processing across a multi-site workforce
- Accounts receivable management and assisting the Accounts Payable team
- Building and managing relationships with external stakeholders such as auditors, financial institutions, and other partners
- Providing guidance and support to finance team members as well as the broader business
- Assisting with the implementation of new systems
- Completing additional tasks and analysis as required
About You
We're looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation and a drive to contribute to a high-performing team. Our ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance is required
- Three or more years' experience in an Assistant Accountant role, with the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with accounting systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus
- Experience with Employment Hero Payroll/Keypay software is highly regarded
- A sound working knowledge of Accounting Standards related to account preparation and financial disclosures
- The ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work autonomously and prioritise tasks effectively
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration
- A willingness to learn and share knowledge with the team
