The Opportunity:

KBR is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Defence team as a Technical Writer supporting a Defence platform. This role provides specialist documentation support across complex capability programs, ensuring artefacts are developed, governed, and delivered in alignment with Defence doctrine, legislative obligations, and platform requirements.

In this role, you’ll support technical and program stakeholders in the identification, development, and management of controlled artefacts. You’ll coordinate documentation processes in accordance with Defence governance frameworks, policy, and technical standards. Your work will span requirements analysis, drafting, stakeholder engagement, traceability management, and configuration control playing a vital role in ensuring documentation integrity across the Defence capability lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and analyse development requirements for each artefact
  • Scope documentation and develop detailed author’s briefs
  • Draft artefacts in accordance with agreed briefs and Defence standards
  • Facilitate progression of artefacts to first draft stage through stakeholder engagement
  • Liaise with Defence stakeholders and technical authorities to consolidate review feedback
  • Develop artefacts to final draft stage for sponsor approval
  • Incorporate doctrine of international partners where relevant
  • Ensure traceability to legislative, licensing, policy, and technical obligations
  • Identify and document interdependencies across Defence doctrine, policy, manuals, standards, and related publications
  • Produce high-quality diagrams, tables, and structured visual content
  • Maintain consistency, configuration control, and version management across all artefacts
  • Deliver final documents including controlled source files and reference documentation

 

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Qualifications in technical writing, communications, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience supporting documentation within Defence or other highly regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of Defence governance, policy, and documentation standards
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder reviews and technical inputs
  • Experience maintaining traceability matrices and configuration control processes
  • High attention to detail with strong written communication skills
  • Proficiency in documentation and version control tools

 

Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
