The Opportunity:
KBR is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Software Engineer to join our Defence team. This role supports software and firmware management across major Defence programs, contributing to the sustainment and capability development of mission critical systems. Working under the guidance of senior engineering leads, you’ll help shape software management strategies that align with Defence objectives and regulatory frameworks.
In this role, you’ll support the planning and implementation of software management regimes across the product schedule, including bare metal OSes, applications, dependencies, firmware, and radio waveforms. You’ll engage with stakeholders, contribute to technical risk assessments, and assist in drafting project and software management plans. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring compliance, technical assurance, and strategic alignment within the Defence capability lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of software engineering under broad direction.
- Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making and priority setting.
- Demonstrate software engineering knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on the development of advancements to established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations.
- Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in team work and motivate and mentor developing engineers.
As the ideal candidate, you will bring:
- 5+ years of experience delivering engineering outcomes within a Defence environment.
- A solid understanding of the Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and its practical application in Defence projects.
- Proven experience in Configuration Management, with the ability to apply best practices across complex systems.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation through Engineers Australia and registration on the National Engineering Register (highly desirable).
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with ASDEFCON deliverables, including documentation, compliance, and Defence procurement standards.
Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
