The Opportunity
KBR is seeking a motivated and commercially minded individual to join our Defence team as a Commercial Support Officer. This role provides support across a range of procurement and contract management activities within major Defence programs. Working under the guidance of senior commercial specialists, you will contribute to the delivery of commercially sound outcomes aligned with Defence capability objectives.
In this role, you’ll support senior commercial specialists in the planning and execution of procurement and contract management activities across major Defence projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyse multi-tenancy agreements, deeds and operating arrangements to identify gaps, risks and improvement opportunities
- Align contractual intent with operational practice, clarifying roles, service boundaries and cost allocation mechanisms
- Design and implement fit-for-purpose governance structures, including executive and operational forums, Terms of Reference and decision-rights frameworks
- Establish a scalable, regionally based administrative/secretariat model to support governance activities
- Develop commercial strategies and recommend appropriate procurement methodologies
- Lead and support the development of Approach to Market documentation, ensuring alignment between commercial terms and technical scope
- Evaluate commercial aspects of tender responses and contribute to evaluation reports and recommendations
- Provide commercial SME support during contract negotiations, including drafting key negotiation documentation
- Apply commercial and legal risk principles across procurement and contract management activities
- Engage and collaborate with internal stakeholders, Defence Legal and specialist advisors to obtain required approvals and clearances
- Mentor and support capability uplift, including knowledge transfer to APS personnel
The Ideal Candidate Will Bring
- Demonstrated experience analysing complex, multi-tenanted service agreements and ASDEFCON contracts
- Strong ability to interpret contractual clauses, indemnities, obligations and variation provisions
- Proven experience designing and implementing governance frameworks and operating models
- Experience delivering end-to-end Defence procurement activities, including tender evaluation and negotiations
- Sound understanding of commercial risk, liability and performance management frameworks
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong analytical capability
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant legal, business or commercial discipline (or equivalent experience)
Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
