The Opportunity:
KBR is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to support a range of platform integration and modernisation projects within the Defence environment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the commercial delivery of complex C4I integration activities across multiple Army platforms.
In this role, you will work closely with project leadership, engineering teams, industry partners and Defence stakeholders to ensure procurement, contracting and commercial outcomes are delivered effectively and in line with governance requirements. You will operate within a dynamic, integration‑focused environment, contributing commercial expertise across the full lifecycle of procurement and contract management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop procurement methodologies and contracting approaches that optimise value for money and commercial performance.
- Design commercial arrangements that reduce tendering costs, mitigate risks, simplify governance, and support whole‑of‑life cost efficiencies.
- Lead procurement planning and conduct procurement activities in accordance with Defence procurement frameworks and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules.
- Prepare approaches to market, including panel engagements, limited/open tenders, RFIs, RFQs and foreign military sales.
- Develop and tailor contract documentation (ASDEFCON, CCS and other Defence templates).
- Manage industry engagement activities including market research, industry consultations and unsolicited proposals.
- Lead evaluation of industry responses and prepare evaluation reports and recommendations.
- Develop negotiation directives and lead commercial negotiations to ensure strong value‑for‑money outcomes.
- Prepare post‑negotiation documentation and finalise contracts for execution.
- Support contract management activities including transition, performance oversight and contract closure.
- Provide commercial advice to project teams and stakeholders across the procurement lifecycle.
You’ll Bring:
- Demonstrated ability to provide commercial advice across capability procurement lifecycles.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage complex commercial challenges.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with internal teams, senior leaders and industry.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to develop work plans, identify success factors and recommend improvements.
- Previous Defence or military environment experience.
- Experience delivering commercial advisory services to Defence.
- Knowledge of the One Defence Capability System and Fundamental Inputs to Capability.
- Experience working with Defence Primes on deliverables‑based contracts.
- Strong background in procurement methodology and contracting design within Government and private sectors.
- Experience managing commercially and logistically complex Defence projects.
Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
