The Opportunity:
KBR is continuing to expand and strengthen its Land Systems Division in Melbourne and is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong Defence background. This is a full-time, permanent role supporting the sustainment of one of Australia’s most significant land systems programs within the Land Manoeuvre Systems Branch (LMSB).
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will lead and deliver complex mechanical engineering activities across engineering change, configuration management, certification, systems safety, and logistics engineering. The role involves applying advanced engineering judgement to technical investigations and variations, providing senior technical guidance, ensuring compliance with Defence and Australian Government frameworks, and contributing to the ongoing safety, performance, and sustainment of critical land capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Independently apply advanced mechanical engineering principles to resolve complex engineering issues and support sustainment outcomes.
- Lead and contribute to the design, development, and delivery of complex engineering assignments, investigations, and studies.
- Develop engineering solutions and requirements within engineering change, configuration management, and governance frameworks.
- Verify Requests for Problem Resolution (RPRs) against approved requirements, certification baselines, and safety documentation.
- Manage assigned Requests for Variation (RFVs) through to Return to Standard (RTS), permanent implementation, or cancellation.
- Conduct engineering investigations and technical assessments to support certification, safety, and capability assurance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to designers and less experienced engineers, acting as a senior technical advisor.
- Use engineering tools and systems including configuration management, modelling, design, and data analysis tools to support delivery.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, representing KBR in technical discussions as required.
- Ensure compliance with the Engineering Management Plan, Defence and KBR frameworks, and contribute to a safe working environment.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
- Eligibility to hold and maintain an AGSVA NV1 security clearance.
- A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within Defence, Defence industry primes, or similarly complex environments.
- Demonstrated experience in configuration management, certification management, logistics engineering, and systems safety engineering.
- A professional, discreet, and collaborative working style, with a strong focus on delivering outcomes within a team environment.
