The Opportunity:
KBR is seeking a talented and driven Software Engineer to join our high-performing Defence team, supporting the modernisation and enhancement of Electronic Warfare.
In this role, you will contribute directly to the design, development, and sustainment of advanced software solutions that support operational readiness and frontline capability. Working at the intersection of innovation and mission delivery, you will apply your technical expertise to build robust, high-performance applications across complex and evolving Defence environments.
As part of a collaborative and agile team, you will solve challenging engineering problems, enhance your technical capabilities, and contribute to programs of national significance. This is more than a software engineering role it is an opportunity to deliver capability that matters.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and deploy high-performance software solutions supporting advanced Electronic Warfare capabilities
- Translate operational and customer requirements into robust technical designs
- Contribute across the full software stack, including GUI development, backend services, databases and system integration
- Work within an Agile environment using tools such as Jira, Confluence and Git-based repositories
- Identify technical risks and solve complex engineering problems in evolving environments
- Ensure software compliance with Defence security, quality and engineering standards
- Maintain software baselines, documentation and configuration management records
- Collaborate closely with engineers, SMEs and program leads to deliver capability outcomes
- Support continuous improvement of performance, reliability and maintainability
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or related discipline
- 3–7 years’ experience in software development and modernisation programs
- Strong programming capability in languages such as Python, C++, Java or JavaScript
- Experience in full stack development (GUI, APIs, databases, containerisation technologies such as Docker/Kubernetes)
- Understanding of software engineering standards, testing and quality practices
- The ability to work independently under broad direction while contributing effectively within a team
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
- A proactive mindset and comfort working in environments with evolving requirements
Experience within Electronic Warfare or Defence programs is highly regarded.
Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance (NV2 preferred).
