As a leading construction company, we’re looking for a Temporary Works Structural Engineering Specialist to join our team and play a key role in shaping the success of our projects.
About the Role:
As a Temporary Works Structural Engineering Specialist, you’ll provide expert technical advice and leadership in the design, planning, and implementation of temporary structures used during construction. These include scaffolding, propping, crane bases, and other support systems critical to safe and efficient project delivery. Importantly, this role does not involve detailed engineering design responsibilities, allowing you to focus on reviewing, advising, and ensuring the safety and compliance of temporary works.
You’ll work closely with project teams, consultants, and trade partners to ensure all temporary works are practical, compliant with Australian Standards, and seamlessly integrated into the overall construction process.
What You’ll Do:
Review and Advise on Temporary Works Designs:
- Evaluate designs for temporary structures, such as:
- Demolition works.
- Temporary structural supports (e.g., props, needles).
- Propping and back-propping.
- Falsework and formwork.
- Dilapidation and condition reports.
- Crane bases, crane ties, crane recovery, and staging.
- Precast lifting and propping.
- Catch decks.

- Assess the impact of construction activities on permanent structures, such as:
- Construction hoists, alimaks, and concrete placing booms.
- Mobile cranes, loading platforms, and construction vehicles.
- Scaffoldings, screens, and elevated work platforms (EWPs).
- Material stacking and other temporary loads.

Technical Leadership and Support:
- Provide expert advice on construction sequencing, methodology, and program planning.
- Collaborate with project managers, design managers, and delivery teams to ensure the correct implementation of temporary works on-site.
- Conduct value engineering and propose alternative designs to optimise safety and efficiency.
Training and Development:
- Train and mentor team members on temporary works best practices.
- Develop and maintain in-house processes, procedures, and quality assurance standards for temporary works.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all temporary works meet Australian Standards and align with client specifications.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to temporary structures and their impact on permanent designs.
What We’re Looking For:
Required Skills:
- A degree or diploma in Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience, including expertise in temporary works like scaffolding, propping, crane bases, and structural supports.
- Chartered Professional Engineer
- Conversant with structural engineering software such as RAPT, StructuralToolkit, SAP2000, RamConcept
- Ability to carry out manual calculations
- Strong technical knowledge of construction methodologies and their impact on permanent structures.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- A valid construction induction card and full working rights in Australia.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with software like Aconex and Bluebeam.
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable approach to work.
- On-site experience on commercial building sites and expertise in electrical construction.
- Skills in crane and rigging coordination, logistics, and safety compliance.
