Our Not-for-profit Law program provides free and low-cost legal help to community organisations, particularly those that are smaller, volunteer-run, or working with communities experiencing disadvantage. A critical part of that work is systemic advocacy, and our Unlock DGR campaign is a national law reform campaign to effect lasting change for the Australian community sector and the people and communities it supports through Deductible Gift Recipient system reform.

As our Campaign Manager, you will lead the Unlock DGR campaign, working alongside a team of respected experts providing legal support to community organisations across the country to influence stakeholders and decision makers and drive systems-level change. You will thrive in this role if you are a strategic, creative campaigner who understands how government works, knows how to build coalitions, and is motivated by using advocacy to create lasting impact for the community sector.

Our ideal candidate

You will bring to the team experience in the following areas:

• Five or more years of experience in a similar role focused on leading and managing policy and law reform, advocacy, and/or campaigning work in the community sector.
• Excellent understanding and knowledge of government legislative and policy processes and how to influence and effect political change.
• Demonstrated experience translating dense policy and legal material into persuasive, plain-language content.
• High-level verbal and written communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including political engagement and lobbying experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Deductible Gift Recipient system and how it applies to the charity sector (highly desirable).

Required qualification:

• Completion of a qualification in law or other relevant tertiary qualification.

What you will achieve in the role

In this role, you will lead Justice Connect's Unlock DGR campaign, a critical national law reform campaign to effect lasting change for the Australian community sector through Deductible Gift Recipient system reform. You will:

• Develop, iterate, and implement a high-performing, impactful, and innovative campaign strategy.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with key campaign stakeholders, government decision and policy makers, sector networks, peak bodies, funders, media, and supporters.
• Navigate and respond to key campaign moments and overcome roadblocks, using strategic thinking, creativity, and deep analytical skills.
• Develop key campaign messaging and external-facing materials including submissions, reports, media releases, and communications materials.
• Implement measurement, evaluation, and learning throughout the campaign, and compile funder and internal reporting on campaign activities and achievements.

A week in this role

If you were here last week, you would have:

• Worked collaboratively with the Head of Not-for-profit Law to discuss tactics and iterate the campaign strategy.
• Prepared for and executed a meeting with ministerial advisers and key decision makers.
• Coordinated with our Online Services Manager and Justice Connect's Engagement team to develop campaign content.
• Discussed technical legal and policy issues and blockers with our Principal Lawyer and external key stakeholders.
• Met with key peak bodies and sector representatives to understand their pain points and experiences with the DGR system.
• Delivered a campaign briefing to a network of key stakeholders.

Salary

$145,044.87 per annum (pro-rata) + 12% superannuation + 17.5% annual leave loading

As a not-for-profit, Justice Connect is able to offer salary packaging, which allows you to enjoy part of your salary tax-free, increasing your take-home pay.

• Up to $15,900 per year on everyday living costs, including rent, mortgage, groceries, bills and personal loan repayments
• Up to $2,650 per year on meals and entertainment

Our salary packaging partner, Smart, will assist successful candidates in setting up and managing their arrangements.

• Hours: 22.5 hours per week
