In the face of rising levels of unmet legal need, Justice Connect designs and delivers high impact interventions to increase access to legal support and progress social justice. Our vision is that legal support is in everyone’s reach.

Justice Connect Intake (JCI) is a newly created team that sits within our wider Innovation Program to provide specialist intake, triage, outreach and referrals. The team ensures that people receive a streamlined, consistent, and impactful response - enabled by digital systems, and underpinned by human-centered legal expertise. 

Our ideal candidate

You'll bring to the team experience in the following areas:

  • Professional experience with intake and triage, including for a range of civil legal matters, and legal supervision
  • Leadership and people management skills with a strong ability to support, inspire and achieve the best outcomes for our community and organisation
  • Client centered approach and experience working with clients with complex needs and diverse stakeholder groups
  • Using sound judgement to think analytically and solve problems
  • Curious and open to adapting to and developing new ways of working

Expertise that you may have that would support our team:

Principal of a law Practice Practicing Certificate (PC), or sufficient experience and/or qualification to be eligible to apply for a Principal PC. The candidate will need to complete a Practice Management Course if they have not done so already.

Candidates will need to demonstrate commitment to Justice Connect's vision, strategy and values.

What you will achieve in the role

In this role, you’ll work to

  • Ensure that help-seekers experience a timely, human-centered, and expert-led response when they reach out or are referred for legal assistance
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and legal supervision of our referrals and Justice Connect Answers (our online legal advice practice)
  • Support service transformation, driven by data and embedding digital solutions that improve triage quality, reduce delays, and expand community access to more legal help
  • Develop a team culture of continuous learning and reflective of Justice Connect values

A week in this role

If you were here last week, you would have:

  • Regular check-ins with the team to support decision making around matter eligibility, conflict check escalation, strategies to support placement of a matter.
  • Train new volunteer pro bono lawyers participating in Justice Connect Answers, our online legal advice clinic, and oversee review of legal answers.
  • Attend a community legal sector meeting to share updates about pro bono support and how to connect clients with our range of legal support and tools.
  • Test our new AI tool to help connect help-seekers with legal information and support earlier.
  • Work with our Data Insights Lead to review data trends and identify insights to inform practice.
  • Participate in organisation-level forums such as our Practice Management Group (attended by Principal Lawyers across the org) or Digital Consumer Outreach Group for a particular outreach campaign we're running that week.

Important role information

The position reports to the Manager of the program.

Employment is full time permanent.  

The salary for this role is $123,564.52 per annum plus superannuation which will be paid according to statutory with annual leave loading and generous salary packaging options.  

This role can be based at our Melbourne or Sydney CBD offices with 40% of the month in the workplace with hybrid working arrangements.
