Innovation & Connections is rethinking how people access legal help at scale. The Connections team triages incoming enquiries and navigates people to the right pathway, whether that is pro bono referral through our member law firms, Justice Connect Answers, specialist internal programs, self-help resources, or external services. This role sits at the intersection of that service delivery work and a funded women's access to justice project, designed to help women experiencing intersecting barriers identify legal issues earlier and access timely, appropriate support before problems escalate.

We are looking for a lawyer who combines strong triage and service delivery experience with project coordination capability. You will do well here if you are someone who cares deeply about access to justice, is comfortable working with people in complex and difficult circumstances, and gets energised by building and improving services rather than just running them.

Our ideal candidate

You will bring to the team experience in the following areas:

Experience in delivering and supervising intake, triage, assessing eligibility, and identifying appropriate assistance pathways.
Experience working with people experiencing intersecting barriers to justice, including vulnerability, trauma, and complex legal and non-legal needs.
Project coordination and delivery capability, including tracking deliverables, stakeholder communication, and reporting.
Experience or skills to prepare and deliver legal information resources, training resources, and training sessions for legal and non-legal audiences.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to engage clearly, respectfully, and professionally with help-seekers, pro bono partners, and community organisations.
A collaborative, improvement-focused working style with curiosity and adaptability.

Required qualification:

Admitted as an Australian legal practitioner and currently holding an unrestricted practising certificate.

Candidates will need to demonstrate commitment to Justice Connect's vision, strategy and values.

What you will achieve in the role

In this role, you will work to:

Improve early access to legal help for women experiencing barriers to justice, leading day-to-day delivery of Justice Connect's funded women's access to justice project.
Deliver key project components, including development of plain-language legal resources, targeted outreach and engagement, community partnerships, and a dedicated pro bono referral pathway.
Strengthen high-quality triage, referral, and discreet legal help pathways across Connections, supporting people to access the most appropriate assistance.
Contribute to evidence, learning, and service improvement by supporting monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on outcomes.
Support stronger partnerships and gender-responsive legal assistance through work with pro bono partners, community organisations, and internal teams.

A week in this role

If you were here last week, you would have:

Reviewed a new request through our women's access to justice project from a single mother who urgently needed help getting repairs that had left her property unsafe for her and her young child. By the end of the week, you had drafted a brief on the matter and started reaching out to member law firms to find critical pro bono representation.
Led a regular stand-up meeting with colleagues, running through project priorities for the week.
Attended a meeting you had set up with our funder along with senior staff to share quarterly reflections and a client story.
Worked with the Principal Lawyer on developing a training session for pro bono lawyers on client engagement and trauma-informed practice.
Reviewed client feedback received after using our online help tool and identified improvements for testing informed by their comments.
Joined a Friday afternoon virtual games session with colleagues from interstate.

Salary

$113,714.25 per annum + 12% superannuation + 17.5% annual leave loading

As a not-for-profit, Justice Connect is able to offer salary packaging, which allows you to enjoy part of your salary tax-free, increasing your take-home pay.

Up to $15,900 per year on everyday living costs, including rent, mortgage, groceries, bills and personal loan repayments
Up to $2,650 per year on meals and entertainment

Our salary packaging partner, Smart, will assist successful candidates in setting up and managing their arrangements.

Location: Level 5, 446 Collins Street, Melbourne or Level 5, 175 Liverpool Street, Sydney (hybrid working model, 40% time in the office across the month)
Employment type: Full time, fixed term for one year (with a possibility to extend)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (1 FTE)
