The Lawyer, Senior Law is focussed on building the capacity of health staff to identify and respond to financial abuse of older people. In addition, the role supports our project outreach work, supporting older people to put future planning documents in place as a preventative measure against future abuse with opportunities for law reform research and strategic advocacy.

Our Seniors Law program helps older people who are experiencing or at risk of elder abuse to understand and assert their rights, make informed decisions, and plan for the future.

Working through Health Justice Partnerships in Victoria and New South Wales, our lawyers collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide support in trusted and accessible settings. We take a holistic approach to address both the legal and non-legal drivers of elder abuse, aiming to protect older people’s autonomy, safety, and choice as they age.

What you’ll achieve in the role

  • Support the Victorian Health Justice partnerships through casework, training or referrals
  • Support Conversation Guide workshops and pro bono clinics
  • Contribute to the team's strategic initiative, projects that align with Justice Connect's strategy
  • Research, law reform, advocacy opportunities with external stakeholder engagement
  • Contribute to funding reports

A week in this role

If you were here last week, you would have:

  • Attended onsite at Health Justice Partnerships in Melbourne and prepare discrete advice, provide training or promote information resources
  • Attended team meetings
  • Participated in team deliverables for funders
  • Facilitated a Conversation Guide workshop with older persons in the community
  • Promoted Seniors Law pro bono clinics to member firms

Important role information

The position reports to the Manager, Seniors Law.

Employment is fixed term, part time 22.5 hours per week until 30 June 2028.

The salary for this role is $112,232.84 per annum (pro-rata), plus superannuation which will be paid according to statutory requirement, with annual leave loading, additional leave benefits and generous salary packaging options. 

This role can be based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Boon Wurrung Country. We have flexible hybrid working arrangements, so you’ll spend 40% of your time in the office each month.
