As our Senior Media and External Affairs Adviser in this parental leave role, you’ll lead our proactive media and storytelling program across broadcast, print, trade, and digital channels — helping us share meaningful stories about how we’re shaping Australia’s energy future.

You’ll work closely with leaders and teams across our businesses to identify stories worth telling, manage our media presence, and ensure we’re ready to respond confidently when issues arise. 

A little about you

Lead our media engagement program

  • Design and deliver our media engagement strategy and reporting program.
  • Build and nurture relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Seek out compelling stories and data-driven insights that highlight the impact of our people and projects.
  • Confidently pitch and present stories that resonate with our communities and stakeholders.

Partner across the business

  • Collaborate with leaders and teams to develop, implement, and evaluate communication and issues management strategies across internal and external channels.
  • Provide trusted advice to help teams communicate clearly, consistently, and confidently.

Manage reactive media and issues

  • In partnership with the Group Communications Manager, respond to media enquiries and issues with professionalism and care.
  • Prepare spokespeople for interviews, develop approved media responses, and occasionally act as company spokesperson.
  • Contribute to our media on-call roster.

Lead crisis and emergency communications preparedness

  • Support emergency and crisis communication planning, including business continuity readiness.
  • Play a key role in crisis response when needed, helping ensure clear and empathetic communication during critical events.

Build confidence through media training

  • Design and deliver engaging media training sessions for leaders and employees at all levels.
  • Help others feel confident and authentic when representing the organisation.

Collaborate on marketing and campaigns

  • Work closely with colleagues in Communications and Marketing to deliver key campaigns and projects.
  • Support messaging, copywriting, and storytelling for the Group’s annual marketing program.
  • Partner with the Renewable Gas team to deliver advocacy, editorial, and paid campaign opportunities that support Australia’s energy transition story.

Qualifications / certifications & Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • A passion for storytelling and an instinct for finding the human angle behind the headlines.
  • Confidence in engaging with media — whether it’s crafting a pitch, briefing a journalist, or preparing a spokesperson.
  • Experience developing and executing media or communications strategies in complex organisations.
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and navigate sensitive issues with sound judgment and care.
  • A collaborative spirit — you enjoy working across teams, building relationships, and supporting others’ success.
