About the role

At Jemena, safety isn’t a box to tick — it’s a shared responsibility, built through trust, listening, and thoughtful engineering. We’re looking for an experienced Distribution Assets Engineer or Senior Engineer who thrives at the intersection of field reality and strategic asset management, and who believes the best solutions are co-created with the people doing the work. 

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys being present, influential, and hands-on — equally comfortable on site with crews as you are in technical specification reviews and safety forums. 

What you’ll be involved in:

You’ll spend meaningful time in the field, building strong relationships with Zinfra crews and supervisors, creating space for open conversations about safety, and ensuring concerns are genuinely heard, prioritised, and actioned.

You’ll lead investigations into safety issues, trial new equipment and practices, and guide technical change so improvements stick — practically, clearly, and with care for the people impacted.

From asset standards to design reviews, you’ll bring a field-informed lens that balances safety, constructability, compliance, quality and cost — helping us design solutions that are safer to construct, operate, and maintain.

Through committee participation, coaching, and collaboration, you’ll elevate operational safety conversations and help close the loop on compliance, learnings, and continuous improvement.

Experience:

• 5+ years experience in electrical supply, ideally within distribution networks
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering preferred (Chartered status desirable) 
• Understanding of working safely in live electrical environments 
• Confidence translating complex technical issues into clear, practical guidance
• Strong relationship-building skills — you listen well, communicate clearly, and earn trust
• Experience in risk assessment, change management, and safety investigations
• A thoughtful, outcomes-focused approach that balances people, safety, and performance
