Overview of our role

The GIS Development team within Jemena digital support the IT aspect of a number of GIS systems for Electricity & Gas distribution.

GIS applications and data at Jemena are important information systems, relied on by a large number of Jemena and Zinfra people, our contractors, field workers and selected external users.

You will be empowered to provide technical, administrative and system administration support for the various GIS applications, enhancements, interfaces and tools (in conjunction with end-users, Project Managers, Senior Analysts or Developers and Team Manager). 

A little about you

  • Experience with the analysis, design and completion of solution to enhance or manage complex IT systems
  • Awareness of Utilities industry (Electricity & Gas)
  • Understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) functions, primarily Smallworld, and ideally Open Source GIS or ESRI technologies 

Qualifications / certifications & Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Development or Computer Science or IT (or approaching graduation)
  • Tertiary qualifications in GIS
  • Smallworld along with experience with OO programming language(s), especially Magik, Java
  • Experience with web programming (html, JavaScript)
  • Experience with databases, especially VMDS (or Oracle, SQL server, Postgres)
  • Awareness of project methodology, IT standards, ITIL, and change management.
