What We Are Looking For:

The Future Forward Research group within Intuitive Surgical has an immediate opening in Sunnyvale, CA for a Software Engineer with focus on Deep Learning Data Pipelines, contributing to new technology development for next-generation robot-assisted surgery platforms. This role is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team and contribute to its growth and it will give you an opportunity to test your knowledge in a challenging problem-solving environment. Software Engineer (Systems):

  • Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for enhancements and new products.
  • Develops software and tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, cloud-based and Internet-related tools.
  • Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, test, and develop software for Data Pipelines throughout the lifecycle (collection, processing, annotation, training, storage, mining, and analytics).
  • Maintain Deep Learning databases and cloud storage solutions.
  • Provide technical support on Data Pipelines to internal users and external partners.
  • Set up and test software and hardware for new data collection systems.
  • Manage and maintain Deep Learning servers.
  • Train and benchmark AI models.


Experience and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, or related fields with minimum (3) years industry experience.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong programming skills with industry experience in developing production software.
  • Proficient in Python (Numpy, SciPy, Pandas, PyTorch), SQL, and Shell Script.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud solutions.
  • Experience working with image and video datasets (OpenCV, FFmpeg).
  • Familiar with Data Science algorithms (regression, classical Machine Learning algorithms, Deep Learning).
  • Familiar with GPU accelerated algorithms and implementations.
  • Familiar with vision hardware (RGB cameras, time-of-flight sensors).
  • Able to view live and recorded surgical procedures.
