Primary Function of Position:

The Animal Health Technologist is responsible for the care and maintenance of animate and inanimate models before, during and after laboratory sessions. They work closely with the Director, clinical veterinarian and other laboratory staff to support customer training programs


Roles & Responsibilities:

Anesthesia Assistance:

  • Administration of anesthesia: induction, maintenance, and emergent management
  • Sets up anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment for specific surgeries
  • Animal care and surgical preparation under veterinarian supervision including vascular access and monitoring, sedation, intubation, and other skills
  • Intraoperative monitoring of vital statistics, fluids, drug administration, surgical interventions

Laboratory Support:

  • Maintain a clean and safe surgical working environment
  • Support customer training and product development activities

Maintenance and Inventory:

  • Assist with stocking OR bays and prep room
  • Assist with weekly and monthly OR bay and prep room set up


Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • 0-1 yrs. experience in veterinary anesthesia and surgical procedures
  • Registered Veterinary Technician new grads encouraged to apply
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with animals in a research setting preferred
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, medical disease states, surgical applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Skill with large animal care and emergency care techniques
  • Experience with surgical preparation and operative monitoring required
  • Ability to lift 50 lb.
