Ian Martin is working with a reputable manufacturing facility in the Sainte-Croix area that is celebrating 100 years in business. A national manufacturer providing a broad range of cast iron OEM products.

We are looking to hire a General Manager that will oversee two manufacturing facilities within Quebec. The General Manager is responsible for promoting and fostering a culture that upholds the values of this long-standing organization while providing direction to the management team to drive the growth of production, revenue, and the quality of goods and services.


Day to Day:

  • Establish overall vision and direction 
  • Develop strategies to support processes and procedures to enhance corporate performance.
  • Monitor Managers' performance against goals to ensure progress is being made. Meet regularly with Plant Managers (one on one).
  • P&L responsibility as well as forecasting
  • Provide feedback to all leaders to improve production.
  • Responsible for the appropriate staffing levels to meet the requirements of the facility.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, terminations, and performance management.
  • Responsible to oversee continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing Initiatives.
  • Manage the morale in the facility and promote a team approach to Employee Engagement.
  • Review and approve operational plans for material output, inventory, budget spending, material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, and human resources.
  • Analyze and report on key performance indicators and industry trends.
  • Examine reports (e.g. inventory, production, and daily reports) to determine operational activities of the company and ensure optimal performance.
  • Responsible to ensure all company practices, plant rules, policies or procedures, collective agreements are adhered to.
  • Responsible for Union Negotiations.
  • Promote safety and ensure all standards are met or exceeded


Level of Authority:

  • Authority to recruit.
  • Authority to terminate direct personnel.
  • Approve Budgets and spending.
  • Approve all operational and HR-related policies.
  • Business Planning in support of corporate goals


Qualifications and Attributes: 

  • Minimum 15 or more years of previous management experience in a manufacturing environment particularly Foundries.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business or Engineering.
  • Bilingualism (French/ English) preferred
  • Ownership and accountability to others and self.
  • Good team skills, Interpersonal skills, and ability to establish trust.
  • Leadership ability and ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral). Clear, concise, and articulate communication.
  • Embrace learning, development, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to execute goals and strategies.
  • Knowledge of customer service, quality forecasting, budgeting, and performance management systems.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating a high-performing team.
  • Ability to communicate goals and execute strategies based on corporate objectives.
  • Communicate with all levels (includes US operations), Union Leadership at the local and regional level and External Clients and various Suppliers
  • Working knowledge of applicable software programs
  • Ability to perform with integrity in a fast-paced, high-energy, and demanding role.
