Electrical Designer

A Canadian-owned and operated engineering firm that specializes in providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, & lighting expertise across Canada. The firm has a diverse project portfolio across both the private and public sectors, including Healthcare, Institutional, Commercial, and Residential projects.

As the new Electrical Designer on the team, you will bring your CAD and Revit expertise to design Lighting, Fire Alarm, Power, Network Communications, and Electrical systems for ongoing and upcoming projects that you will be excited to be a part of.

 

Day to Day:

  • Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients and other designers.
  • Lead by example, following proper procedures.
  • Participate in training courses as requested.
  • Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff.
  • Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time.
  • Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives
  • Attend coordination meetings.
  • Check drawings for quality control using a checklist.
  • Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines including Mechanical, Architectural/Interior Designer, and Structural.
  • Create working drawings with AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Design systems in accordance with ABC, ASHRAE, IES, CEC, and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
  • Layout lighting, fire alarm, power, communication, and electrical systems.
  • Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards.
  • Monitor drawing production.
  • Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions.
  • Prepare CCN and SI as required.
  • Prepare detailed equipment room layouts including sections.
  • Prepare detailed riser diagrams.
  • Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction.
  • Report to Group Leader any project-related quality, speed, or scheduling issue.
  • Review and comment on shop drawing submittals including size distribution, feeders, conduit, wire, etc.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ability to think independently
  • At least 1 year of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
  • Detail-oriented
  • Engineering Technologist or Engineer in Training
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Architectural drawings
  • Experience with Windows and general computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or REVIT
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Familiar with ABC, ASHRAE, IES, CEC, and other relevant Codes and Standards is deemed an advantage
