Position Summary

The Corporate Planning team is responsible for advising senior leaders, and the broader college community, on emerging strategic issues to develop transformative strategies, recommend key change initiatives, and drive better decisions and results. The team’s mandate is to:

1.   Formulate the long-term vision for the organization in collaboration with varied stakeholder groups

2.   Lead the organization-wide annual planning process to drive structured, coordinated alignment of academic and service unit strategies

3.   Manage and cascade information on strategic objectives and outcomes

4.   Provide key insights that challenge and inform strategic decision making

Centennial College is immediately hiring for a Business Planning Strategist to support the college’s strategic business planning process. Under the direction of the Director, Corporate Planning, this self-starter will oversee and lead the annual business planning cycle using evidence-based perspectives to identify potential risks and make sound recommendations to support the college’s strategic objectives. The incumbent will facilitate and drive communications with internal stakeholders up to executive level, to coordinate the development and delivery of strategic and tactical plans while monitoring and measuring institutional performance.

Responsibilities

·        Lead the Annual Business Planning cycle and development of the College’s Annual Business Plan 

·        Lead college-wide strategy communication and deployment efforts

·        Work with colleagues and executives to facilitate, formulate, document and communicate the college vision, direction and strategy

·        Develop and review long-term growth strategies, innovation and transformational activities

·        Determine the implications of key market and competitive trends; integrate and disseminate best practices in strategy and planning

·        Attract and grow strategy and planning talent and systems with a focus on sustainability, leadership and execution

·        Standardize planning processes across academic divisions and departments to develop the organization’s planning community

·        Serve as a Consultant to support the development of strategic plans to maximize performance and achieve a position of market leadership

·        Assist functional groups in clarifying changes to the existing state business models; support teams in scenario planning

·        Develop, monitor and manage balanced scorecards as a strategy management tool

·        Oversee benchmarking initiatives and coordinate submissions to ensure alignment with strategic objectives

·        Develop and maintain systems to monitor, measure and report; act as Administrator where applicable


We’re looking for someone in addition to what was provided, with extensive experience managing the Business Planning Cycle and where possible integrating or developing strategic frameworks.

Qualifications/Experience

·        Minimum four (4) year degree in Business or related field; MBA and/or PMP an asset

·        Five (5) years of relevant and progressive work experience in strategy formation, planning, transformation and change management

·        Demonstrated strategic planning experience leading and managing frameworks that include human, fiscal and other resources

·        Experience with process mapping or financial modelling with an understanding of how to link strategies to financial plans

·        Ability to research and leverage evidence-based approach to create sound structured analysis and drive actionable results

·        Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to establish trust and effectively manage relationships at all levels inside and outside the college community

·        Possesses high initiative and independence of action

·        Excellent communication (written/oral/presentation) skills
