Our client, a Canadian multinational energy transportation company with a focus on the transportation, distribution, and generation of energy, has an immediate need for a Project Accounting Advisor. This is a contract position for six (6) months located in Calgary, Alberta.

Description

The Project Accounting Advisor will support a fast-paced and high-performing Enterprise Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team in their planning, budgeting and forecasting processes, financial analyses and other ad-hoc projects. The incumbent will have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of post-designation experience in Accounting and/or Budgeting, dealing with complex financial systems and working in cross functional teams.

Accountabilities

  • Support the Corporate Allocations process, this involves working with complex Excel models,
  • Provide support to the Corporate Allocations team with various rate cases,
  • Work closely with the FP&A team on a new ERP system implementation,
  • Manage the development of budgets and forecasts of centralized services groups, through Hyperion Financial Systems,
  • Manage timely and accurate monthly variance reports, understand and analyze variances through collaboration with centralized services groups, and apply sound finance and business acumen in presenting variance analysis to senior management. This includes ensuring congruence of the financial information with the plans and policies of the enterprise,
  • Maintain strong relationships with businesses and centralized services groups and drive a disciplined approach for a regular and smooth information flow to maintain validity of financial projections,
  • Identify process improvement opportunities within the FP&A group, foster innovation via proposing effective solutions and leading various process improvement initiatives,
  • Lead ad-hoc inquiries as they arise; develop and maintain expertise at understanding the complex principal business drivers within the centralized services and other operating business segments. This will require the development of strong, cooperative working relationships with business units,
  • Demonstrate a high degree of competency in various analytical tools including Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables, Index, Match, VLOOKUP, Logical functions, etc.), Hyperion Planning and Essbase systems, and recommend enhancements to the systems,

Required

  • Professional accounting designation with minimum 5 to 7 years of post-designation experience in an accounting, budgeting and planning environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Oracle/SAP and Hyperion
  • Experience in implementation of Oracle, SAP or Hyperion system will be an asset
  • Experience in managing budgets and forecasts, high proficiency in Excel is a must,
  • Strong analytical and strong problem-solving skills; communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data for decision making,
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (both written and verbal), proven experience with executive communications and presentation,
  • Self-starter, requires minimal direction to accomplish goals,
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, strong team player and collaborates well with others to solve problems.
