Our client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada, has an immediate need for an Engineer for Geotechnical - Transmission – Lines This is a contract position for one (1) year located in Burnaby, British Columbia
This role requires demonstrated experience with geotechnical design linear transmission infrastructure and experience must be translatable to Overhead - structures and underground cables and facilities for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment, as well as design for telecommunication towers
Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with & project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional Engineer and as a Professional of Record (POR) in accordance with EGBC and & Design Practices.
Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
Prepare designs for existing and new facilities.
Coordinate site investigations.
Take geotechnical lead position in procuring consulting and or site investigation services for work packages. It requires collaboration with management, procurement, forestry, environmental and safety teams to prepare an RFP (scope of work, technical specs, table of quantities/prices, and definition of payment items).
Ability to perform various in situ field tests such as standard penetration test, cone penetration, dynamic cone penetrometer.
Perform tasks in the field for laboratory soil testing.
Undertake geotechnical design of Transmission Overhead - Lines including single and multiple pole structures (rigid and guyed), and lattice (rigid and guyed) for shallow (i.e. grillage) and deep (i.e. piles) foundations.
Undertake analysis for foundations design of structures associated with Transmission Underground Cables including potheads, concrete vaults, and cable duct banks.
Prepare reports for internal and external clients detailing investigations, evaluation, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.
Familiar with Standards like the transmission line design standards ES41B.
Experienced in geohazard and geotechnical risk identification and assessment of linear structures such as transmission lines, roads and pipelines.
Experienced in conducting field assessments of safety after a geohazard event for crew to access site.
Familiar with Owner’s Engineer roles and responsibilities.
Familiar with RFP process for providing technical requirements, reviews, Q&A, and recommendations for award.
Experienced in Geotechnical aspects of designing Transmission and Stations structure foundations such as shallow foundation, raft foundations, grillages, and piles (conventional and helical).
12 years of experience or more
Must have PEng, & provide proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from accredited Universities in Canada
Must have demonstrated experience as Geotechnical Engineer
Must have experience performing geohazard/geotechnical risk assessment
Must have E5 level of experience and skill classification according to EGBC 2017 Guide of Competency Assessment, with 12 years of experience or more.,
Familiarity with CAD systems & drawing standards
Must have valid BC drivers license
Experience in utilities for transmission station projects is an asset, however, industry experience must be translatable to station facility design for overhead structures & underground cables which have operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment, as well as design for telecommunication towers
Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software
Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint OneNote).
