Our oil and gas client in Chatham, ON is looking to hire a Communication Specialist for a 12 monthscontract role with possibility of extension.
What you will be doing…
Coordinate external communications and messaging throughout major project lifecycle’s, from initiation, development, regulatory approvals, construction and in-service.
Equip company spokespersons with consistent/accurate information to support outreach to external company stakeholders (e.g. media, regulators, government, Indigenous communities).
Develop project-specific external communications materials, including key message development, issue briefs, fact sheets, newsletters, website information, social media posts, project updates and others, by working with various internal teams (Project Team, Municipal Affairs, Marketing, Environment and Government Relations).
Develop advocacy plans based on scale and risk, to include items like print, digital, radio, and social advertisements.
Assist municipal relations with the timely response to incoming stakeholder inquiries (from the website, social media, residents etc.) related to project work.
Proactively identify and support responding to project issues, to mitigate risks associated with potential opposition to the project.
Reinforce the need for this critical energy infrastructure and associated local economic benefits, our commitment to be a responsible steward of the environment, and positive messages around natural gas.
Attend internal project team meetings to stay informed, solicit feedback and provide regular updates to the project team, maintaining strong and cooperative working relationships across the organization.
Participate in technical and non-technical project-specific meetings to add continuity across communications plans and projects and provide timely advice and recommendations with respect to issues management.
What you will need to succeed…
Must Have Skills:
Bachelor degree in a relevant program from a recognized university.
Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, community/government/municipal relations, or equivalent.
Superior communications skills, and excellent writing skills for mass communications as well as knowledgeable audiences.
Familiar with traditional media, social media, and marketing campaign development.

Experience in the natural gas/energy industry.
Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions.
