Our client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada, has an immediate need for a IT Greenplum System Administrator. This is a contract position for thirteen (13) months located in Burnaby, British Columbia

Description

Greenplum system administrator is required within IT Operations to help support existing sustainment and project needs. Greenplum is a big data platform and support analytical applications that drives business benefits. In addition to the role profile requirements, additional requirements include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of HCI/VSAN and SAN architectures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Layer 2 and 3 networking

The resource will be part of the Energy Analytics Solution team and report to the Operations Manager. The resource will work closely with the existing Greenplum system admin to ensure platform stability and performance. 

Accountabilities

  • Monitor Greenplum database environment operations by troubleshooting performance issues and completing operational routine sustainment activities and bug fixes efficiently and on time to support multiple project and sustainment teams across the organization.
  • Maintain Greenplum database environment by reviewing and adjusting configurations related to other systems, administering and enhancing web-based application environment monitoring dashboards, optimizing database objects, table structures, and query structures, and documenting and updating standard operating procedures while providing timely status updates to the Reporting and Analytics team.
  • Integrate Greenplum with other ecosystems by collaborating with the business, vendors, and development team members and applying data integration best practices to optimize the functions and operations of the Greenplum database environment components.
  • Respond to security assessment requests and highly scrutinized security test by assisting in development, migration, or operational tasks using excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to implement network infrastructure required to meet customer environment requirements.
  • Perform configuration activities such as installing the Greenplum database environment, reviewing and adjusting the configuration of other systems like SAS and STI, creating or migrating database objects and SQL scripts, designing Greenplum database, and implementing a physical model to support business operations in achieving organizational objectives.
  • Continuously improve the efficiency of Greenplum database environment by presenting reports, feasible technical options and recommendations, maintaining awareness of technological developments, and researching hardware and software products to ensure innovative, reliable, and quality technology solutions.
  • Provide oversight, ongoing guidance, and technical Greenplum expertise to users, customers, partner resources, and multiple project and sustainment teams to continuously build Greenplum capability.
  • Design, develop, and document high quality, sustainable Greenplum solutions and enhancements based on approved architectural direction by reviewing functional specification documents and presenting the proposed technical design to the solution leads for review following standards and guidelines.

Required

  • Must have:
  • Minimum 10 years managing database administration - managing Greenplum (or Oracle/MS SQL or similar database technology
  • at least one (1) year in a production support role for Greenplum or large corporate technology project environment
  • at least five (5) years writing, debugging, and maintaining Linux shell or Perl and Python scripts
  • Assets:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HCI/VSAN and SAN architectures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Layer 2 and 3 networking
  • Knowledge of advanced metering systems
  • Environment operations and troubleshooting experience
  • Education and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Expert technical skills in the following areas:
  • PostgreSQL or PL SQL queries
  • MS Windows Server OS, VPN, Remote Desktop Connection
  • MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Visio, and Access)
  • IT security and Infrastructure components such as Firewalls, Load balancers, Storage Management, Active Directory (AD), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and other network infrastructure components
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) development and best practices
  • Good working knowledge of Advanced Metering Systems / Smart meters or Itron smart metering software, an asset
  • Good communication skills for professional environment, written and spoken

Additional Information

  • Client requires proof of Covid-19 vaccination to access job site. Providing proof of vaccination is a condition of employment with Ian Martin” for this opportunity.
  • The resource can work from home to start but will be required to work onsite at least 1 day per week once covid worksite restrictions lift. 
  • Candidates located in the lower mainland is preferred 
  • Candidates from out of province considered if they are willing to relocate come January.
