We are passionate about people making their own decisions about where and when they work. Our aim is to facilitate hybrid working (mix of in the office and from home) where possible to support our people to be effective, empowered, and productive to achieve both their career and personal goals. Because we recognise that working flexibly means different things to different people, flexible working exists in many forms.
Our Why?
Humanforce’s vision is to make work easier and life better for frontline and flexible workforces.
Humanforce provides the market-leading, all-in-one human capital management (HCM) suite for frontline and flexible workforces, without compromise. Our employee-centered, intelligent, and compliant HCM suite is highly integrated and composable, consisting of Workforce Management (WFM), HR, Talent, Payroll, and Wellbeing.
Humanforce has grown rapidly through four strategic acquisitions, bringing together world-class products and teams. With this growth, we’re strengthening our engineering leadership by investing in domain-specific expertise.
We’re excited to introduce three specialised Head of Engineering roles, each dedicated to a core product domain. This structure enables deep technical leadership, champions modernisation, and drives innovation, while empowering teams to deliver exceptional outcomes at scale.
For Workforce Management, this means leading one of our most critical parts of our product, owning the evolution of our scalable, cloud-native architectures, and ensuring we continue to deliver world-class solutions trusted by thousands of organisations worldwide.
AI at Humanforce
At Humanforce, we’re not experimenting at the edges of AI, we’re redesigning the core of how we operate. We see AI as a fundamental shift, not an incremental improvement, and we’re deliberately moving toward becoming an AI-native organisation.
That means rethinking how work gets done end-to-end, how we build our products, make decisions, serve customers, and scale impact. We’re not layering AI onto old ways of working, we’re redefining and reimagining our processes, tools, and team structures to take full advantage of what AI makes possible.
This is a moment of real change. We’re moving fast, learning in real time, and challenging assumptions about roles, workflows, and productivity. If you’re motivated by transformation, not optimisation, and want to help shape how a global tech company operates in an AI-first future, Humanforce is the place to do it.
Who you are
As a Senior Data Engineer, You'll have full ownership of our infrastructure and deployment architecture, from ClickHouse cluster administration through to IaC and CI/CD. You'll set the technical direction for the data engineering function and partner with our Data Engineer, Data Analyst, DBA, Software Engineers, and Product to deliver a reliable, scalable, and observable platform. The bulk of your ownership sits on the infrastructure and platform layer, though strong dbt and analytics engineering instincts will accelerate your impact.
This isn't a typical data engineering role. The platform is customer-facing, data and infrastructure you build and secure is consumed directly by end users across a multi-tenanted SaaS product, where performance and security are non-negotiable.
What you will do
- Own end-to-end data infrastructure: Terraform provisioning, AWS architecture, and all ClickHouse cluster administration (replication, sharding, performance tuning, schema governance).
- Lead the design and implementation of multi-tenant row-level security within ClickHouse, coordinating with the application layer.
- Own and evolve the CI/CD architecture for infrastructure and transformation pipelines (GitHub Actions).
- Architect and manage CDC ingestion via Streamkap, connector configuration, reliability, and failure recovery.
- Lead ingestion of new transactional database sources into the platform.
- Define and maintain platform observability standards: pipeline SLIs/SLOs, alerting, and operational runbooks.
- Lead technical design briefs and architecture decisions for the data engineering function.
- Provide technical mentorship to the Data Engineer, code review, design guidance, and raising the bar on engineering practices.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, DBAs, Data Analysts, and Product on platform and data model decisions.
- Contribute to dbt Core architecture and ClickHouse query optimisation; drive analytics engineering patterns where appropriate.
What you’ll need
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience.
- Strong SQL and Python experience
- Production Terraform and IaC ownership.
- CI/CD pipeline ownership with GitHub Actions or equivalent.
- Proven AWS cloud architecture in a data engineering context.
- Deep experience administering a columnar cloud data warehouse, ideally ClickHouse, or Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift with a clear appetite to own ClickHouse end-to-end.
- Experience with CDC-based ingestion (Streamkap, Debezium, Kafka Connect, or similar).
- Demonstrated security instincts in multi-tenant environments: row-level security, IAM, tenancy isolation, PII handling.
Some ‘nice to haves’
- Architecture and review experience with production dbt Core pipelines.
- Analytics engineering experience: semantic modelling, metrics layer, or similar.
- Comfortable reading and reviewing application-layer code, able to collaborate with backend engineers.
- Experience designing observability frameworks (SLIs/SLOs, alerting, on-call practices).
