An exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing business with an amazing culture. We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our Data Insights function, sitting close to the business and acting as the trusted, go-to contact for our partners and teams on all things reporting. You will build a deep understanding of how different parts of the business work and what they need from data, and you will be the person who makes sure they can get it — whether that means showing them how to run the reports, handling ad-hoc data queries, or scoping out what a new dashboard needs to do.
The Role
Reporting to our Data Science Senior Manager and working alongside our Senior Data Analyst, you will be the human face of the Data Insights function for the business. Where the rest of the team is focused on building and maintaining our data platform and dashboards, you will be focused on the people using them: understanding what partners and business teams are trying to achieve, helping them get value from the reporting we already have, and making sure new requests are properly understood and documented.
Day to day, this means proactively teaching people how to find, access and run existing reports themselves, through training sessions, quick how-to guides, or simply sitting with someone and walking them through it. It also means handling ad-hoc data queries and investigations. Over time, you will build the relationships and reputation that make you the first call whenever someone in the business has a question about their data.
When a partner or business team wants something new – a new dashboard, a new view of existing data, a new way of tracking something – you will be the one who sits with them to work out what they actually need, not just what they first ask for. You will turn that into clear, well-documented requirements that our data team can build against, and stay involved through delivery to make sure the end result matches what was asked for.
We are moving away from Power BI toward python-based dashboards (Streamlit) running on Databricks. You don't need to be able to build in these tools, though if you have some python experience and want to get involved in building dashboards yourself, there will certainly be scope to do so. What matters most is that you can navigate and confidently talk through reports and dashboards from the end user's side, and that you understand enough about how our platform works to have an informed conversation with the data team about what's feasible and how long it might take.
This role is based in Sydney, where most of our partners are based, as it is important you can build in-person relationships with the business. We would also consider candidates based in Melbourne or Brisbane. Hybrid working arrangements are available.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience as a business analyst, reporting, data analyst or similar role
- Has previous law firm experience, or similar professional services experience – this will be highly regarded
- Builds relationships easily and enjoys being the go-to person for partners and business teams, including at a senior level
- Genuinely enjoys teaching and training others, and can confidently run sessions or one-on-ones showing colleagues how to access and run reports
- Can sit with a stakeholder, ask the right questions, and turn a loosely defined request into clear, well-documented requirements for a new report or dashboard
- Is a clear, patient communicator, equally comfortable explaining a report to a partner and relaying a business requirement to the data team
- Is proactive and curious, and enjoys spotting opportunities where better reporting, training or data access could help the business
- Is highly organised, able to juggle multiple stakeholder requests at once without dropping the ball.
