About the role:

We are seeking a Head of Private Markets (Infrastructure) to join our high performing and award-winning Investments team. As the steward for all matters that relate to capital deployment and portfolio construction, the position will be responsible for optimizing long-term net investment returns by providing input into the strategic direction of the Infrastructure asset class and by managing the deployment of member capital. Working closely assisting the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Deputy CIO’s the role will partner with the Asset Consultants in managing the PST’s Private Markets portfolio, inclusive of the Property, Private Equity and Venture Capital asset classes. This includes ensuring that these asset classes are constructed and managed in accordance with the PST’s risk and return objectives.

Reporting to the Deputy CIO and working alongside the other asset class Heads as required to ensure alignment of the Private Market asset classes, you will develop a deep understanding of the asset class strategy and of its implementation, and will cultivate relationships with each manager within the asset class. In addition, you will maintain a strong relationships with key stakeholders, lead commercial negotiations, and ensure the implementation of new investment opportunities via the adherence to the Fund’s policies and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing key strategic initiatives as detailed in the annual asset class review;
  • Maintaining a strong and aligned relationship with the Asset Consultant’s relevant asset class team;
  • Leading commercial negotiations and ensuring the implementation of new investment opportunities via the adherence to the Fund’s policies, processes, and checklists;
  • Developing and cultivating relationships with each underlying manager within the asset class;
  • Driving comprehensive and disciplined due diligence on new investments, and ongoing due diligence for existing investments;
  • Coordinating the various internal due diligence activities (including legal, tax and operational due diligence);
  • Researching complementary prospective managers and investment strategies;
  • Monitoring, managing and measuring the key characteristics and return drivers of the asset class;
  • Driving the development, management and implementation of various asset class reporting enhancements;
  • Ensuring the maintenance of a database/dashboard capturing the key features of each investment strategy within the asset class; and
  • Monitor, manage and measure the key characteristics of the asset class.

About you:

  • Proven experience in a senior role within investments, and in particular within superannuation;
  • Competitively driven with a desire to achieve outstanding results in a team environment and ensuring the highest standard of outcomes;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking with excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrated exemplary ethical standards, integrity and commitment in all business and commercial dealings;
  • Strong relationship management skills;
  • Experience dealing with managers, Boards, auditors and other key stakeholders;
  • Self-motivated, and willing to take initiative;
  • Proven experience developing strategies and executing them both internally and externally; and
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaborating successfully within the broader investments team.
