About the role:
The Investment Analyst has responsibility for providing input to the strategic direction of the private market asset classes (including Infrastructure, Property, and Private Equity) and the deployment of member capital to the private market asset classes to maximise member returns.
In conjunction with the CIO and Private Market Heads of investment you will assist in managing Hostplus’ unlisted portfolio to ensure it is constructed and managed in accordance with the PST’s risk and return objectives. You will have input in all matters that relate to capital deployment and portfolio construction.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct research and analysis of investment opportunities in Infrastructure, Property, and Private Equity
- Identify and evaluate potential investments, including performing due diligence and developing financial models.
- Prepare and present investment recommendations to senior management and the investment committee.
- Monitor existing investments and provide regular updates on their performance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry experts and stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, investment banks, and other financial professionals.
- Stay informed of market trends and new investment opportunities, and maintain a broad understanding of the private markets.
- Contribute to PST’s strategic direction and identify opportunities for business improvement
- Work collaboratively with investment partners and asset consultant team members to pursue private market opportunities
- Effectively manage internal projects (private market related or otherwise) as required by supporting project managers or independently managing own projects Advanced use of PC, Microsoft package, Hostplus administration system and allied systems.
- Understand the broader Hostplus offering and provide support to broader team where required
- Assist in developing short, medium and long-term private market strategic plans in conjunction with the asset consultant for presentation to the Board on an annual basis (focus on capital deployment and relationship development, investment analysis, prioritising portfolio construction)
- Participate in the monitoring of unlisted investments, including review of asset and manager performance, independent valuation reviews and portfolio sensitivities
- Participate in strategic identification of new investment opportunities and the origination process including recommendation and implementation
- Participate in investor advisory committees, panels, and steering committees as required for PST investments and represent the PST’s interests (where necessary to evaluate major matters including investment recommendations and provide feedback)
- Coordinate transaction process in relation to acquisition and divestment of investments
- Financial analysis including financial modelling, sensitivity and scenario analysis
- Review and interrogate complex financial models to test acquisition proposals and robustness of valuation assumptions and methodology
About you:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in Infrastructure, Property, and Private Equity in superannuation
- Knowledge of key finance principles and fundamentals, including project finance, investment risk/return analysis, and governance reporting procedures
- Strong understanding of specific industry issues, and risk allocations
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with successful experience in dealing with statutory bodies / regulators
- Experience with peer investors and shareholders
- Strong analytical skills and financial modeling expertise.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex ideas to non-financial stakeholders.
- A track record of producing high-quality work and demonstrating initiative.
- A passion for investing and a deep understanding of the private markets.
