The Tax Manager will reside within the Investment Operations and Implementation Team and will assist with the day-to-day tax management practices of the Hostplus Pooled Superannuation Trust (PST), the Hostplus Superannuation Fund (Fund) and Host-Plus Pty Limited (Trustee).

This is a key strategic role which will work across both the Investment Operations and the Finance Team at Hostplus.

The opportunity

Hostplus is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our Investment Operations and Implementation Team. This role will oversee day-to-day tax management across the Hostplus Pooled Superannuation Trust (PST), the Hostplus Superannuation Fund, and Host-Plus Pty Limited. You’ll manage relationships with external tax advisers, lead quarterly tax meetings, and act as the primary contact for tax matters across Investment Strategy, Investment Operations, and Finance teams. Key responsibilities include oversight of BAS and FBT reporting, FATCA and CRS compliance, tax governance, and corporate action tax risk assessments.

You’ll also be responsible for reviewing tax provisions, managing ATO interactions, and ensuring accurate tax reporting and true-up processes. The role includes oversight of US and Australian tax returns, Special Purpose Vehicle reporting, and maintaining the material transaction tax register. You’ll support the selection of tax-appropriate investment vehicles and contribute to improving the quality of tax reporting from our Fund Administrator. This is a high-impact role for a tax professional looking to shape and strengthen Hostplus’s tax strategy and operations.

About you

  • Extensive experience working with across a broad range of taxes, including: Corporate Tax, GST, FBT,FITOs, Imputation Credits as well as the preparation and review of the required lodgements (i.e. BAS statements, Income Tax Returns, FBT Returns, etc)
  • Tax experience within a similar role at a superannuation fund and/or within a big four accounting firm preferred.
  • Prior experience dealing with the ATO, both in day-to-day operations as well as in managing ATO reviews (i.e. Combined Assurance Reviews).
  • Experience in the design and implementation of Tax Governance controls, including third party data governance.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities, willingness to accept autonomy and responsibility in contributing to the success of Hostplus.
  • An ability to embrace, accommodate and implement change management initiatives both within Hostplus and in collaboration with our external custodian and fund administrator.
  • Bachelor of Law / Commerce / Accounting, or other relevant degree
  • CA / CPA / Graduate Diploma in Tax or other relevant qualifications
  • Relevant superannuation experience
