We are looking for a motivated, practical and hardworking Groundsperson to join our team at Hereford Racecourse. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining our racecourse and wider estate to an exceptional standard throughout the year, helping to ensure we deliver outstanding facilities and memorable race days for our visitors, participants and connections.
What you'll be doing
Working under the direction of the Clerk of the Course and as part of our dedicated Grounds Team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day maintenance, presentation and upkeep of the racecourse and wider estate. You’ll help ensure our facilities and grounds are maintained to the highest possible standards, while playing an important part in the successful delivery of race days and events throughout the year.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work and thrives in a fast-paced environment. From preparing the racing surface for fixtures to maintaining gardens, parade rings, car parks and wider estate areas, no two days are quite the same. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference to the presentation and smooth running of Hereford Racecourse, both on race days and throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities
· Assisting with the year-round maintenance and preparation of the racing surface.
· Preparing and reinstating the course before, during and after racing.
· Operating tractors, machinery, vehicles and all-weather maintenance equipment.
· Maintaining lawns, gardens and parade rings to an excellent standard, with particular attention to race days and events.
· Keeping car parks, tracks, tarmac areas, horsebox parks and other external areas clean, tidy and well presented.
· Removing weeds, leaves and rubbish to ensure the grounds consistently look their best.
· Assisting with the maintenance of estate buildings, equipment and external areas.
· Working alongside the Clerk of the Course, Grounds Team and relevant racecourse officials to ensure the successful delivery of racing and events.
· Following all health and safety procedures and working safely with machinery, equipment and chemicals.
· Supporting the wider operational team when required.
About you
· A genuine interest in grounds maintenance, horticulture, agriculture or outdoor work.
· Experience using gardening, agricultural or grounds maintenance machinery (desirable).
· A practical, hands-on approach and a willingness to learn.
· Excellent time management and organisational skills.
· The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
· Good communication skills and a positive team attitude.
· A flexible approach to working hours.
· A good attendance and reliability record.
· A full clean driving licence.
