Are you a hands-on operations leader with a passion for food, retail and creating unforgettable customer experiences?

Hay St Market is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our vibrant market precinct, including Hawkers Market and Central Market.

Reporting to the General Manager, this is a pivotal role that blends operational excellence, people leadership, and commercial acumen — all within a fast-paced, high-energy market environment.

What are your responsibilities:

  • Lead the daily operations of all food and retail outlets across Hawkers Market and Central Market
  • Ensure consistently high standards of service, cleanliness, and operational efficiency
  • Recruit, train, and lead food and retail staff to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, food safety, and liquor licensing requirements
  • Support ongoing staff development and performance management
  • Gather and respond to customer feedback to continually improve service
  • Champion a welcoming, engaging, and high-quality customer experience

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in food and retail operations management is essential
  • Highly organised, commercially minded, and solution-focused
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced setting while maintaining high standards
  • Proven experience managing teams, suppliers, and inventory in a high-volume environment
  • Confident leader with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or similar (or equivalent experience) is an advantage
