Harris HMC Cadet Program - previously known as the Harris HMC Graduate Program

The program you know and trust, rebranded with a new name — providing practical experience, diverse rotations, and strong career opportunities post-graduation.

Our industry leading program is a 12-month paid opportunity for final-year Construction and Project Management students to gain hands-on experience and exposure to the construction industry.

It’s been 9 years since we launched this program, during which we have cultivated strong industry talent and take pride in providing a robust pathway that empowers our people to excel and thrive in their careers.

The Opportunity

Our Cadet Program is completed in your final year of study, from January 2026 to December 2026. You will work 3 days per week, with working days being flexible to accommodate your study requirements. Being a 12-month program means your introduction into industry is not a lengthy process, but rather a chance to dip your toe in each role so you are ready to start can start your career after the year is complete. 

Our 12-month program offers a structured, hands-on introduction to the industry, where Cadets will rotate through our three business units and gain exposure to variety of different teams and projects:

  • the Construction Division (Estimating, Project Coordinating alongside a PM/CA and on site with a Site Manager)
  • the Services Division (Including our Maintenance & Electrics Teams)
  • the HSEQ Team.

To help you though the program, you will be partnered with a mentor who has previous experience in in our program. Your mentor will provide guidance throughout your journey, ensuring your experience is positive and meaningful. You’ll also have regular group check-ins and access to ongoing learning opportunities, with continuous feedback during each rotation to help you develop professionally.

Getting your work boots dirty is part of the fun! As a cadet, you’ll work across our North Melbourne, Notting Hill, and Keilor Park offices — as well as on various project sites. This provides a great balance of office exposure and hands-on site experience where the real action happens.

At the conclusion of the program, kick off your career by exploring permanent placement opportunities within the business! 


Who is eligible to apply?

  • Construction and Project Management students completing their final year of study in 2026.
  • We will also consider students graduating in 2027.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A passion for the construction industry
  • A positive, proactive attitude which aligns to the Harris HMC values and culture
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated work experience is helpful (in a relevant field or otherwise)
  • Eager to continuously learn and develop
  • The ability to work well in teams, as well as autonomously when required
