  • Pay Rate: $45.00 - $65.00/hour, depending on experience
  • Assignment Length: 12-month contract with the high possibility of extension or conversion based on performance and other factors.

Job Overview:

Halliburton is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Azure Cassandra Database Administrator to join our growing data platform team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the optimal design, performance, and reliability of our Apache Cassandra clusters, leveraging Microsoft Azure's Managed Instance for Apache Cassandra service. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies and contribute to high-scale, mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Modeling & Schema Design: Design, implement, and maintain optimal Apache Cassandra keyspaces and table schemas for high-volume, low-latency applications.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Monitor and analyze Cassandra cluster performance, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and optimize CQL queries.
  • Capacity Planning & Scaling: Plan for cluster growth and execute scaling operations within the Azure Managed Instance framework.
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Implement comprehensive monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose and resolve complex database-related issues, collaborating with development and operations teams.
  • Database Interaction & Administration: Perform routine administrative tasks and data manipulation using cqlsh and graphical tools.
  • Security & Access Management: Implement robust security configurations for Cassandra clusters, ensuring secure client connectivity.
  • Backup & Restore Strategy: Oversee and validate automated backup and recovery strategies for Cassandra data.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Develop and maintain documentation for Cassandra cluster configurations and operational procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, architects, and other stakeholders to provide expert guidance on Cassandra integration.
  • Automation: Leverage Azure CLI, PowerShell, or scripting languages to automate routine administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7-10+ years of experience as an Apache Cassandra Database Administrator/Engineer in a production environment.
  • Deep expertise with Apache Cassandra fundamentals and hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency with Azure Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups, and general Azure networking concepts.
  • Strong practical experience with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate).
  • Experience with distributed systems concepts beyond Cassandra.
