We are seeking a Junior UX Designer on a long-term contract to support mission-critical digital products for real-time drilling operations. You will embed directly with the UX team, working within an established design system alongside senior designers and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver clear, efficient interfaces for field engineers and operations personnel.
- Pay Rate: $27.65 – $31.53/hour, depending on experience.
- Assignment Length: 12-month contract with a high possibility of extension and/or conversion based on performance and other factors.
- Shift Details: Monday - Friday | 40+hrs
Responsibilities
- Design wireframes, user flows, interaction models, and high-fidelity prototypes for enterprise web applications.
- Collaborate with product owners, engineers, and subject matter experts to translate complex operational workflows into intuitive UI.
- Participate in user research, usability testing, and design critiques.
- Contribute to and maintain components within the Design System (Figma + Angular/PrimeNG).
- Use AI-assisted coding tools to rapidly prototype and validate design concepts in-browser — GitHub Copilot (required); Claude (preferred); familiarity with browser-based AI builders such as Bolt or v0 a plus.
- Deliver design specs, annotations, and developer handoff documentation via Figma.
- Support accessibility reviews and ensure designs meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Participate in agile ceremonies within a sprint-based development environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2–5 years of UX/product design experience, preferably in enterprise or SaaS environments.
- Strong Figma proficiency — components, auto layout, variables, prototyping.
- Demonstrated ability to produce wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
- Experience working with or contributing to a design system.
- Working knowledge of AI-assisted prototyping — GitHub Copilot (required); ability to generate functional HTML/CSS/JS prototypes; familiarity with browser-based AI builders such as Bolt or v0 a plus.
- Understanding of front-end fundamentals sufficient to prototype and collaborate effectively with engineers.
- Portfolio demonstrating UX process, problem framing, and design rationale — not just polished visuals.
Preferred:
- Experience with Angular or Prime NG component libraries.
- Familiarity with data-dense dashboard or operational UI.
- Exposure to Token Studio, Figma Variables, or design token pipelines.
- Background in industrial, O&G, or engineering software.
Skills & Competencies
- User research & synthesis — interviews, usability testing, affinity mapping.
- Information architecture & interaction design.
- Visual design fundamentals — typography, spacing, hierarchy, color.
- Design system contribution — not just consumption.
- AI-assisted prototyping — core expectation, not a bonus.
- Clear communication and ability to present and defend design decisions.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and iterating quickly.
