About the role
Green by Nature currently manages many prestigious sports turf sites across greater Melbourne, and this is a unique opportunity for a qualified Leading Hand to work within our team at Caulfield Racecourse working alongside one of Racing's most prestigious clubs - The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC)
Working closely with the Contracts Manager and MRC Management, you will provide guidance and direction to the grounds team day to day ensuring our grounds maintenance services are at a high standard and meet MRC expectations. You will be the Green by Natures representative onsite and the point of contact for both staff and MRC Management.
Responsibilities:
- Receive briefing from MRC Track management at the commencement of the day and carry out instructions, delegating to the rest of the team when required;
- Coordinate all the pre-race day works such as rail moves, pre and post-race day track repairs (plugs, sodding, fill);
- Coordinate and conduct the mowing/snipping requirements - training tracks, Course proper, public lawns, nature strips etc. along with running tread crews on trial mornings;
- Assist Contract Manager to accurately complete all required paperwork including daily time sheets, customer duty forms, equipment checklists and inductions and timesheets;
- Communicate with and assist MRC Track Foreman in solving on-site problems;
- Assist Contract Manager in training new and existing staff in understanding our customers “level of presentation” and ensure correct horticultural practices are implemented;
- Assist the MRC Track Management to carry out staff audits ensuring adherence to company HSEQ policies and procedures;
- Be involved in monthly contract, HSEQ and site meetings when required;
- Work reasonable overtime as required, particularly on scheduled event and race days;
About You
- Certificate III in Sports Turf Management
- Must have a valid Manual Drivers licence
- Must have previous experience managing teams
- Must be available to work on assigned racing event days
- National Police Check & Working with Children Check (Willingness to obtain)
- Previous experience in turf management, greenkeeping, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of turfgrass species, growth habits, and maintenance requirements.
- Familiarity with turf care equipment and machinery, including mowers, aerators, and sprayers.
