About the role
Green by Nature currently manages many prestigious sports turf sites across greater Melbourne, and we are looking to build the capability of our team by bringing on an exceptional Assistant Head Curator!
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned turfie to join our team based primarily at the Junction Oval Precinct. The role will assist in ensuring seamless delivery of turf maintenance and site operations in alignment with our client's requirements and sporting calendars. Turf maintenance operations, renovations and site scheduling, team leadership, client engagement, reporting, and sports turf expertise all coming together to execute delivery of our contracts efficiently and effectively.
The role is demanding during cricket season but offers excellent flexibility and opportunities for time off during the winter months, or to be involved in turf maintenance of different sporting codes at a professional level if desired.
Responsibilities
Ready to take on an exciting challenge? The main areas you will be responsible for are:
- Completing all maintenance and works programs for our clients ensuring high-quality, consistent turf presentation and the quality and play-ability of turf surfaces.
- Preparation of first-class and premier cricket match day centre wickets.
- Preparation of practice wickets to a professional standard.
- Assisting and working closely and collaboratively with the Head Curator to adjust maintenance programs, meet budgets, and provide reports.
- Leading, motivating and inspiring a team to always deliver work to the highest possible standards whilst championing their development and well-being.
- Monitoring turf health - proactively addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and compaction through appropriate cultural and chemical practices.
- Collaborating seamlessly with the client’s calendar to coordinate maintenance schedules, prioritise tasks, and deliver exceptional results.
- Communicating effectively with the client to understand their expectations, address concerns, and provide expert turf care recommendations.
- Ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant use of all tools and machinery across sites and adherence to operational procedures.
- Utilising your mechanical expertise to operate and maintain mowers, tractors, line markers and other turf-related equipment.
About You
You have successfully completed a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management and have recent experience in turf management and the preparation of first-class cricket wickets. You would relish the chance to be responsible for maintaining and enhancing sporting fields across prestigious sites.
You are proud of your knowledge levels when it comes to grass species, growth habits, and maintenance requirements. You are familiar with all equipment and machinery used in the turf world, particularly mowers, tractors including renovation attachments, and sprayers.
You have a valid drivers licence (preference for MR or are willing to obtain), a white card and a Working with Children Check (or are willing to obtain)
