We’re looking for a Garden Maintenance Team Member / Horticulturist to care for beautifully presented gardens, landscaped areas and turf at one of Sydney’s most prestigious education environments in North Sydney.
This is more than a general grounds maintenance role. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your horticultural knowledge across established gardens while also maintaining high-quality turf surfaces. From plant care, pruning and garden improvement through to precision mowing and detailed presentation, your skills will contribute directly to the appearance and health of this impressive site.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain established gardens, landscaped areas and turf to an exceptional presentation standard
- Apply your horticultural knowledge to plant care, pruning, planting, weeding and ongoing garden health
- Identify opportunities to improve the presentation and condition of gardens and landscaped areas
- Prepare garden beds, mulch, improve soil and undertake seasonal planting
- Mow, edge and maintain high-quality lawn and turf areas
- Operate equipment including cylinder mowers, push mowers and zero-turn ride-on mowers
- Use brushcutters, hedgers, blowers and other horticultural and garden maintenance equipment
- Monitor plants and garden areas and identify maintenance requirements
- Safely operate and care for tools, machinery and equipment
- Plan and complete daily tasks efficiently, including working independently when required
- Follow site safety requirements and contribute to a safe environment for everyone on site
About You
Whether you’ve developed your expertise through a horticultural qualification, years of practical experience, or both, you’ll bring a strong understanding of what it takes to maintain gardens and turf to a high standard.
You’ll ideally have:
- Practical experience in horticulture, garden maintenance, landscaping or grounds maintenance
- Sound plant knowledge with experience in pruning, planting and general horticultural maintenance
- Experience operating commercial garden and turf machinery
- Confidence using equipment such as cylinder mowers, zero-turn mowers, push mowers, brushcutters, hedgers and blowers
- An excellent eye for detail and pride in achieving high presentation standards
- A reliable, punctual and proactive approach to work
- The ability to organise your workload and work effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- The physical capability to safely undertake hands-on horticultural and turf maintenance duties
- A White Card and Working with Children Check (WWCC), or the ability to obtain these prior to commencing
Above all, you’ll be someone who cares about your craft. You notice the details, understand what healthy and well-maintained gardens should look like and take satisfaction in leaving a landscape better than you found it.
