Children’s Counsellor & Group Facilitator

We are seeking a Children’s Counsellor & Group Facilitator for our Children’s Counselling Program! This role is a SCHADS Level 6 ($117,651- $122,848 pro rata, pay point dependent of experience, plus 12% superannuation and up to $15,990 salary packaging). This role is permanent, ongoing and available part-time (0.8 EFT). 

About the role

The Children’s Counsellor & Group Facilitator will be responsible for a range of child-focused and trauma-informed counselling and group work interventions to children and their families who have experienced family violence, ensuring that all therapeutic activities are adaptive and responsive to identified needs. 

Key responsibilities:

• Undertake assessments of children and their families to determine individual needs
• Provide therapeutic counselling interventions to children, including using creative modalities such as Art Therapy and Play Therapy (occasionally providing outreach at schools when required)
• Undertake ongoing family violence risk assessments of children and their families
• Provide tailored group and/or single session child-centred and trauma-informed family counselling interventions and counselling
• Provide support and information to parents/caregivers regarding strategies for effective parenting specific to the needs of the child
• Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the integrated family violence services work plan in relation to children’s counselling services
• Maintain accurate case files and associated documents/notes to meet all auditing requirements
• Actively promote GenWest and our programs with community partners to ensure maximum collaboration
• Participate in regular supervision to discuss clients and workload as agreed to with counselling team leader
• Actively participate in team, program, stream and staff meetings and planning days
• Adhering to all Work, Health, and Safety protocols
• Adhering to the Code of Conduct at GenWest and displaying at all times workplace respect

About you

Essential

• Tertiary qualifications in a therapeutic discipline (such as Psychology, Social Work or related field)
• Eligibility for AASW membership of other professional body
• Highly developed understanding of child development therapy, trauma-informed therapeutic practice and attachment theory
• Relevant working experience within a comparable role
• Substantial direct service delivery experience (assessment & therapeutic interventions)
• Demonstrated understanding of legislation, theory and practice relating to provisions of family violence services to women and children
• Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality services, feminist policy and practice
• Experience in development and maintaining effective working relationships
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work with minimal direction while accepting a high level of responsibility and accountability
• Sound computer skills including data base applications
• Working with Children check
• Police check (and international police check if lived overseas for a year or more in the last 10 years)
• Current VIC driver’s license

Desired

• Clinical training in creative modalities for children including Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy. Dance/movement Therapy and/or Play Therapy

Please be advised as per the GenWest Enterprise Agreement (2024), Clause 19.1 and 19.2, employees can only work a maximum of 76 hours per fortnight and no more than 10 hours per day.
