As GemLife’s event portfolio expands, we’re searching for a passionate Assistant/Sous Chef to join our Events & Lifestyle team and support the delivery of high-quality food experiences at our lifestyle and corporate events.
Working alongside our Executive Chef, you’ll help elevate the resident and guest experience across our national resort network. From long-table dinners and cocktail parties to wellness experiences and launch events, this is a dynamic hands-on role for someone who thrives on variety, quality, and service.
This is initially a part time role across 3 days per week, with occasional weekends and some overnight travel required. You will be working across premium, high-profile lifestyle and corporate events elevating the experience of residents living at a GemLife Resort.
What you’ll be doing:
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of fresh, high-quality food for resident, staff and corporate events
- Work alongside our Executive Chef to execute event catering across multiple locations
- Support with kitchen operations, setup, pack-down, and onsite logistics
- Contribute to creative menu planning, event themes, and special dietary requirements
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards across all environments
- Help deliver and evolve GemLife’s signature culinary experiences such as GemLife Eats and SMEG showcases
- Be flexible to travel across events, resorts, and venues as required
- Step into the lead chef role when required, including during periods of leave or concurrent events
What you'll bring:
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a chef, sous chef or catering chef
- Relevant commercial cookery qualification
- Passion for event catering and delivering exceptional culinary experiences
- Strong organisational skills and calm under pressure
- Experience working offsite in varied venues and adapting to mobile kitchen setups
- High attention to food presentation, quality and service consistency
- Food safety certification and understanding of allergen management
- Team player mindset with a flexible and solutions-focused approach
