With a strong portfolio and project pipeline at GemLife, we are seeking an Urban Designer to work across our Development and Architecture teams to facilitate design-lead outcomes across our over 50's resorts. This is a new position within the business and we're looking for someone who is ready to apply their past experience and grow with the company.
The role requires proven skills in urban design, with an appreciation of the principles of architecture and/or landscape architecture, strong conceptual design thinking, visual communication skills, the ability to operate effectively and efficiently in a deadline-focused environment and principles of regenerative urban development.
This role will include:
- Contributing to the design and delivery of urban design and master planning of over 50’s communities across Australia.
- Reading and interpreting complex reports and strategic papers and pull out the parts that shape a master plan — from spatial requirements through to governance and delivery considerations.
- Translating master plan intent into clear, compelling diagrams, frameworks and conceptual plans, particularly in early project stages.
- Rapidly produce high-quality urban design graphics that explain ideas simply — diagrams that clients and project teams can quickly understand.
- Working closely with architecture, landscape and planning teams to ensure urban design thinking supports the broader project context.
- Taking briefs and work autonomously — developing draft diagrams and concepts that can be reviewed, refined, and built upon by the wider team
- Supporting early-phase master planning with fast, iterative graphic output that helps move developments forward.
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
- 3–5 years of professional experience – Urban Design focused experience preferred.
- Advanced Revit or similar skills — this role requires fast paced development of community plans for due diligence / acquisitions.
- Excellent graphic communication and technical skills (e.g., Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, QGIS).
- Strong graphic communication skills, with the ability to produce diagrams quickly and efficiently.
- Demonstrated experience in urban design projects
- Demonstrated high level communication skills including report writing and ability to undertake presentations.
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment and contribute ideas with enthusiasm.
- A self-starter and able to work independently and ask for feedback when needed.
