Your Role

There is no typical working week at Flybuys. But here are some of the things you will be working on, day-to-day;

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of data engineering platforms, maintaining and improving infrastructure as code capabilities for scalable and efficient data solutions. 
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to other data engineers, promoting best practices, and fostering technical excellence within the team.  
  • Designing and implementing data models, pipelines, and architectures that are scalable, reliable, and efficient.  
  • Ensuring data quality, integrity, and security through the implementation of appropriate data governance policies and procedures.  
  • Staying up to date with the latest data engineering technologies and methodologies and driving continuous improvement in data management practices.  
  • Working closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and other teams to understand their data needs and deliver effective data solutions.  
  • Leading and managing data engineering projects, from initial concept to implementation and deployment.  
  • Identifying and resolving complex data-related issues, ensuring the smooth operation of data systems and pipelines.  
  • Working closely with flex squads to review design, provide support and guidance as required. 
  • Actively contribute to technology leadership, extending your impact beyond your immediate team. 
  • Any other accountability or deliverable as assigned from time to time by management 

Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a team leadership or management role. 
  • Extensive experience in designing, building, and managing data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes. 
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Google BigQuery, Snowflake) and related technologies. 
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience in other relevant languages. 
  • Knowledge of data governance principles, data quality management, and data security best practices. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. 
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex data challenges. 
  • Expertise in data pipeline and orchestration tools, with demonstrated proficiency in Apache Airflow and DBT. 
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) including data, streaming, and infrastructure related services. 
  • Strong experience with streaming technologies, including one of Kafka, Confluent, or Kinesis. 
  • Exposure to Serverless compute services, with hands-on Lambda skills. 
  • Knowledge of best practices in data modelling, ETL processes, and system design. 
  • Expert level skills with Git and CI/CD tool chains. 
  • A desire to stay hands-on and connected to data and software engineering practices. 
  • Excellent team leadership and team management abilities. 
  • Should be able to analyze complex data problems and develop effective solutions. 
  • The ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and approaches is essential in the ever-evolving field of data engineering. 
  • Should be able to evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization. 
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is crucial. 
  • Innovative tendencies and can communicate the value of your ideas. 
  • A track record of strategic thinking and ability to deliver.
