Your Role

The Engineering Manager – cloud has accountability for the technical delivery, all the cloud platforms & systems and the engagement and wellbeing of the team that make delivery possible.

The key areas of accountability in the role are:

  • Coach and develop a high-performing team of engineers and delivery leads, fostering growth, ownership, and accountability.
  • Champion a collaborative, team-first culture where everyone contributes to shared goals, regardless of role.
  • Provide clear expectations and meaningful support so team members feel empowered, challenged, and valued.
  • Guide the adoption of agile and lean practices to drive measurable improvements in delivery and outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of clarity with autonomy such that all people understand role expectations and feel inspired and supported to sustainably reach professional and organisational goals.
  • Deliver a roadmap of initiatives that enable features for customers. Confirming prioritisation, plans and progress are well understood by stakeholders and aligned through OKRs.
  • Lead all stages including scoping, development, testing, implementation, securitisation, and support phases of technology initiatives that sustainably deliver great outcomes for customers (including internal customers).
  • Uplift the engineering and delivery competencies to significantly improve speed-to-market and momentum.
  • Align to chapter defined practices, governance defined processes and architecture defined Technology strategy
  • In partnership with your peers, influence product roadmaps and ensure that a combined platform and technology roadmap is delivered, with plans and progress well understood by stakeholders.
  • Proactively engage and maintain stakeholder relationships including management of dependencies such that issues are surfaced in advance of impacting product development progress.
  • Effectively manage capacity and cultivate a positive team culture so that teams are motivated to willingly implement minor changes that drive progress towards company priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers, stakeholders, and integration teams to ensure delivery is smooth and customer centric.
  • Lead, grow, and manage teams to deliver and support high-quality solutions that meet or exceed system health metrics including security, performance, and quality metrics.
  • Be accountable for managing technology systems within your streams (AWS, API platform, deployment platform) and actively ensure compliance with governance standards and metrics, such as DORA and Flybuys security policies.
  • Ensure the management of budgets, commercial activities, and third-party engagements so that Finance can report timely completion of all obligations.
  • Provides thought leadership in respect to Cloud Engineering as seen by the innovations and improvements you, and your team bring.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the technology systems that form part of your streams such that you are able to represent them in all forums, at all levels of the organisation.

Your Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Science, Engineering, Information Technology and/or or equivalent industry experience. Working knowledge of information technology and technology trends and issues.
  • Sound knowledge of how information and technology contribute to business performance.
  • Experience in leading a development team.
  • Excellent knowledge/experience in the application of Agile and Lean approaches.
  • Experience in program management or project management, with the ability to manage several initiatives concurrently
  • Demonstrated team leadership capabilities including the ability to foster productive team dynamics, engage and enable teams and coach for performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management, planning, organisation, decision making and time management skills.
  • High level of flexibility with a strong ability to lead others successfully through cultural, process, system, and transformational change.
  • Experience in partnering with Product teams to influence the direction of respective products
