The Substation and Protection Technical Program Specialist develops and manages the annual zones and protection maintenance delivery plan, ensuring work is safely, efficiently, and effectively executed.

The role provides technical leadership, program coordination, and cross‑team support to optimise the delivery of maintenance programs, defect rectification, and capital works across the Ground and Zones asset section.

Additionally, this role coordinates the development of work order structures, assists with budgeting, program reporting, and contractor coordination, working closely with procurement to support tendering and performance management.

About the role: 

The Zone Substations Technical Officer supports primary and secondary field delivery teams by:

  • Plan and coordinate the annual Zones & Protection maintenance program, including outage planning, work packaging, and collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and support across primary and secondary systems, including defect assessment, fault finding, and maintenance standards.
  • Manage contractors and support procurement, including technical input for tenders, contract development, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee work order, cost allocation, budgeting, and program reporting, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accurate progress tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvement and strong stakeholder relationships, supporting safety, mentoring, reactive works planning, and cross‑team coordination.

Our ideal candidate: 

  • You take active steps to ensure the safety of your colleagues and our community, championing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (essential) or Associate Degree / Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in construction and maintenance of electricity distribution systems (essential) with experience in primary, secondary systems, zone substations, protection systems, SCADA, or communications
  •  Demonstrated advanced problem-solving and fault-finding experience in electricity distribution systems
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and proven experience in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including internal and external customers and contractors
