Principal Protection Standards Engineer

Evoenergy is seeking an experienced Principal Protection Standards Engineer to provide specialist technical leadership, engineering governance and technical assurance for protection systems across its electricity network. This role is responsible for the development, governance and continual improvement of protection engineering standards, protection philosophies, relay configuration standards and associated engineering assurance practices.
Reporting to the Manager Engineering Standards, you will act as Evoenergy's enterprise authority for protection engineering standards, supporting the safe, reliable and consistent operation of protection systems across the network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, endorsement and continual improvement of protection engineering standards, protection philosophies, technical policies, relay configurations, logic templates and governance practices.
- Provide technical stewardship, engineering assurance and governance of Evoenergy's protection engineering framework.
- Establish and maintain protection philosophies, engineering policies, scheme requirements, relay configuration standards and protection functionality requirements.
- Maintain governance processes for protection settings, relay configuration management, template control, engineering review and change management.
- Conduct independent technical reviews of protection schemes, relay configurations and departures from approved standards.
- Support network fault modelling, protection coordination and protection performance assessment practices.
- Provide technical advice relating to emerging protection technologies, including IEC61850 applications.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across Asset Management, Network Delivery, Works Enablement, Customer Delivery and external stakeholders
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential
- A Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Current ACT Professional Engineering Registration, or the ability to obtain registration.
- Extensive experience in electricity network protection engineering, including transmission and distribution protection schemes, relay technologies and protection coordination.
- Strong knowledge of protection engineering standards, protection philosophies, relay configuration governance and protection settings methodologies.
- Significant experience in protection engineering standards, technical governance, engineering assPrincipal urance or similar protection engineering roles within electricity network businesses.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and governing protection schemes, protection settings, relay configurations and engineering changes.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, risk management, change control and assurance practices within critical infrastructure environments.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications in power systems, electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with IEC61850 systems, digital substations and modern protection system architectures.
- Experience supporting standardisation, governance maturity uplift and continuous improvement initiatives.
