Power System Operations Engineer

- Remuneration - $148,213 plus 16% superannuation
Evoenergy is seeking an experienced, analytical and proactive Power System Operations Engineer to play a critical role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the ACT’s electricity network.
This role sits at the heart of our network operations, providing real time and near real time engineering support to the Control Room and working closely with Network Planning and Network Delivery teams. You will be instrumental in supporting operational decision making during both planned and unplanned network events, helping to minimise customer impact and maintain system security.
About the Role
As a Power System Operations Engineer, you will:
- Provide real time engineering support to the Control Room for day to day operations and network impacting events
- Support operational decision making during faults, outages, switching activities, and contingency situations
- Develop and implement contingency plans where supply security standards are challenged
- Undertake load flow and fault level studies to inform operating instructions and outage responses
- Provide operational input into network development, maintenance planning, and capital works programs
- Monitor and manage operational risk associated with abnormal network configurations
- Prepare reports on major network disturbances and investigate operating incidents
- Build strong working relationships across Network Planning, Network Delivery, and other internal stakeholders
Safety leadership is fundamental to this role. You will actively contribute to a strong safety culture and ensure all activities comply with regulatory, legislative, and organisational requirements.
About You
You are an analytical and proactive engineer who thrives in an operational environment and enjoys working collaboratively across teams. You bring:
Essential
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or a related discipline), preferably with a power systems focus
- Experience in a power utility or control room support environment (distribution or transmission)
- Strong knowledge of electrical network operations, including switching, fault response, and contingency planning
- The ability to interpret and apply network standards, procedures, and safety regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and recommendations
Desirable
- Experience using power system analysis tools such as SINAL, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT
- Familiarity with SCADA, ADMS, GIS, or other real time operational support systems
- Knowledge of regulatory obligations applicable to electricity network service providers
